On, several Milwaukee jazz musicians will come together to pay tribute to one of anime’s most popular series, Cowboy Bebop. For the uninitiated, Cowboy Bebop was a show created in the late 1990’s. Set in the year 2071, the 26 episode series told the story of a crew of bounty hunters.
Each episode or session was a blend of various film genres from science fiction, western, drama, film noir, and comedy. But one of the things that made the show stood out was its music, which was composed. Kanno formed the band Seatbelts to perform the music for Cowboy Bebop before the show was even written.
Is a song composed by Yoko Kanno, performed by the Seatbelts, and the main opening theme song to Cowboy Bebop. It is a big band jazz piece that goes by a Latin-infused hard bop style with a rhythm section that mixes a double bass and bongo drums. Despite primarily being an instrumental. Do not miss the soundtrack here either! Michiko & Hatchin is jazz heavy just like Cowboy Bebop was too. Set in a South American, Brazilian-esque setting, much like how Cowboy Bebop opens, the show follows Michiko Malandro after she breaks out of a prison that boasts how inescapable it is.

A few days ago, my mom asked me what the show is about. Let me think about that for a second.' It takes inspiration from so many different genres ('70s kung fu films, horror, spaghetti westerns. The list goes on and on), and manages to create something on par with- or in many cases, surpassing- the source material. It really is a modern masterpiece, and I recommend it to anyone who takes any serious interest in film. The only other Watanabe show I've seen is Samurai Champloo, and that was almost as good.
The man has great talent in visual media.
